|Scar Tissue was set up as, and continues to run as, a self harm support board rather than a suicide support board. While we know that sometimes the two are very often linked, we are unable to provide counselling or prevention strategies if you are suicidal. That's not to say that if you are feeling suicidal you can't post about it. Of course you can, and we'll give you all the support that we're able to. But we are not professionals, and there are times when we have to draw the line.
Scar Tissue can not be held responsible for the actions of its members. If individuals are concerned about the mental health of other individuals on the board, then it is up to them what they do about it; however, they will be acting as an individual, not as a representative of Scar Tissue.
If you are feeling suicidal, please follow the board rules and post with consideration to other members. Posts about suicide should always be marked with a *SU trigger*, and methods should not be posted. If they are they will be edited out of the post. Multiple posts made by the same person in multiple forums will also be deleted; the board is a highly active one and someone will reply to your post. Posting the same thing multiple times only makes it harder for us to moderate the boards and could cause unnecessary distress to other members who may be feeling the same way.
If someone is suicidal and you feel unable to help them, or are being trigged by their post, walk away. As hard as it might be it's up to the individual involved to seek the help they need. We can provide support but none of us here are professionals and we all have to take care of ourselves as well. It might sound cold, but it is not our responsibility to provide mental health services. We can be here for people, tell them we care, and offer them suggestions about where to go to get help when they are suicidal. But other than that we can't do any more.
If you are suicidal, then please call 999 (UK), 112 (Ireland) or 911 (USA). The emergency services will be able to deal with you and help you far better than we can at ST. If you feel unable to ring the emergency services, then please contact Samaritans, Mind or another mental health helpline (phone numbers can be found at www.scar-tissue.net/essential.html).
